Islamabad, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- Pakistan announced on Thursday the killing of nine militants, including four senior leaders, during a security operation carried out by security forces in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country.
State radio reported, citing security sources, that security forces conducted an operation based on intelligence in the North Waziristan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the deaths of the nine militants and the seizure of large quantities of weapons and ammunition in their possession.
It added that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the success of the security operation and the efforts of the armed forces in enhancing security and stability in the country.
Zardari was quoted in a statement affirming that his country would counter all plots carried out by armed groups and their collaborators, while Sharif emphasized that the success of security operations reflects Pakistan’s determination to “root out terrorism,” praising the efforts of security personnel in establishing security and achieving peace.
This operation comes amid an escalation in armed attacks in Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (End) S.B.K / M.N.F
