Kuwait City, 8 October (KUNA) -- The Dutch capital, Amsterdam, is hosting the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Summit as part of the Global AI Week, which is being held in the city from October 5 to 9. A Kuwaiti delegation is participating alongside a select group of international leaders and experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
The summit, which opened on Wednesday and concludes on Thursday, addresses several key themes, including AI safety, digital sovereignty, sovereign AI, institutional adoption of AI, pioneering research, startups, investment, and creative industries. Participants are also discussing the latest developments in AI and the future of its applications, alongside issues of governance, security, and international cooperation.
A session titled “From Chips to Smart Models: Owning the Integrated AI Ecosystem,” held within the framework of the summit, highlighted the importance of transitioning from merely building AI capabilities and infrastructure to possessing the ability to control various components of the technological ecosystem, thereby enhancing digital sovereignty and technological independence for nations. The session focused on the challenges associated with developing an integrated AI system encompassing chips, computing capabilities, data, and smart models, as well as the importance of coordination among governments, research institutions, and the private sector to transform technological capabilities into actual and sustainable sovereignty.
Participants in this session included Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Internet of Things AI Association (AAIoT); Yasser Al-Anizan, Vice President and Head of AI Products at Humain; Pranav Gokhale, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Inflection; Ti Gampold, Co-founder and Co-CEO at Frontier/1; and Jamil Shnawi, Founder and CEO of Ahoy.
Discussions centered on ways to enhance integration across various sectors and the importance of developing local AI capabilities, ensuring that countries play an active role in technology development rather than merely being users. These discussions gain particular significance amid the accelerating trends of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries toward investing in digital infrastructure and advanced technologies, and strengthening their research and human capacities, thereby supporting the transition toward knowledge- and innovation-based economies.
The World AI Summit in Amsterdam is one of the international platforms that brings together technology sector leaders, policymakers, and researchers to discuss the latest developments in AI and the future of its applications, as well as issues of governance, security, technological sovereignty, and international cooperation.
