UK announces new sanctions on Russian individuals and entities over Ukraine war

London, October 8 (KUNA) -- Britain announced on Thursday the imposition of new sanctions on individuals and 38 Russian entities, including oil companies and tankers belonging to what is known as the “shadow fleet,” as well as entities that “supply vital goods” to the Russian military. The British Foreign Office said in a statement that these wide-ranging sanctions targeted individuals and entities “involved in producing or transporting Russian oil, which finances Russia’s war economy, and facilitating the production or global trade of materials used to support Russian ballistic missile capabilities and bolster its military industrial base, as well as enhancing the financial resources for Russia’s war through circumvention of sanctioned financial services.” The ministry added, “We are also taking firm action against those who assist Russia in evading sanctions, including through financial services and cryptocurrency trading platforms,” warning that “if you help Russia fund this war or supply it with equipment, you will face the consequences.” Earlier today, the British Foreign Secretary arrived in the Ukrainian city of Buryakivka, which came under a Russian attack earlier this week that killed 22 people, including five children.
