Kuwait City, 8 Oct (KUNA) -- A group of Kuwaiti physicians delivered a scientific and training workshop as part of the 56th Annual Congress of the International Continence Society, held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, from October 6 to 9. The participation highlighted the competence of Kuwait’s medical workforce and its presence at specialized international forums.
In a press statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said the workshop, titled “Avoiding Over-treatment in Functional Urology,” addressed the importance of making treatment decisions based on accurate clinical assessment and scientific evidence, while avoiding unnecessary tests, procedures, and interventions. This approach aims to achieve the best therapeutic outcomes for patients and minimize potential complications.
The medical team presented a series of real clinical cases during the 90-minute session, which featured interactive scientific discussions on how to balance treatment options, distinguish between cases requiring medical intervention and those better managed with conservative approaches, and emphasize the importance of involving patients in treatment decision-making.
The workshop attracted physicians and specialists from multiple countries and disciplines. Kuwaiti doctors played a direct scientific and educational role in delivering content, training participants, and discussing clinical experiences within an interactive environment that facilitated the exchange of knowledge and practical expertise in a highly specialized area of urology.
The Ministry noted that the workshop was chaired by Dr. Tarek Al-Shaigi, Consultant of Urological Surgery and Functional Urology, and Head of the Urology Unit at Jabir Al-Ahmad Hospital. Participants included Dr. Mishaari Al-Mutairi, Consultant of Urological Surgery and Functional Urology at Al-Amiri Hospital; Dr. Saeed Aiesh, Consultant of Functional and Reconstructive Urology at Jabir Al-Ahmad Hospital; and Dr. Mariam Al-Mansoori, Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology with a focus on Female Urology at the Maternity Hospital.
The congress is among the leading international scientific gatherings focused on urinary control disorders, bladder function, and pelvic floor disorders, attracting approximately 2,000 physicians, experts, and specialists from around the world to discuss the latest research, medical practices, and diagnostic and therapeutic advancements in these fields.
The Ministry emphasized that the participation reflects the specialized expertise and competence of Kuwait’s medical workforce, its ability to contribute to continuing medical education and knowledge transfer at the international level, and its role in strengthening Kuwait’s presence in global scientific forums. It also supports the exchange of expertise, the development of medical practices, and the enhancement of the quality of healthcare provided to patients. (End) M.N.M./A.M.H.
