Brussels, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- The European Union announced on Thursday that it has extended for one year the sanctions imposed on 80 individuals and 20 entities in response to “hybrid Russian activities,” thereby prolonging the measures until October 9, 2027. In a statement, the Council said these activities include information manipulation and foreign interference, noting that the restrictive measures currently target 80 individuals and 20 entities. It added that the sanctions list includes asset freezes, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds, financial assets, or economic resources to those listed. Furthermore, designated individuals are subject to travel bans that prevent them from entering or transiting through EU territory.
The EU established the “Framework for Sanctions on Destabilizing Russian Activities” in October 2024 to target individuals and entities involved in actions and policies by the Russian government that undermine the EU’s fundamental values, its member states’ security, stability, independence, and territorial integrity. The regime also targets persons responsible for hybrid Russian activities against third countries and international organizations. (End) Arn / T.M.A
