Tunis, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reaffirmed on Thursday its commitment to moving forward with the implementation of the political roadmap in partnership with all relevant Libyan parties and international partners. In a statement, the mission emphasized its dedication to continuing its engagement with the House of Representatives, its new presidency, and all its members, highlighting the importance of working with the legislative body to advance the UN-facilitated political roadmap aimed at unifying institutions, implementing urgent reforms, and holding elections within the timeframe stipulated in the Mini-Summit Agreement signed on August 30. It noted that it had followed the two sessions of the House of Representatives held in Benghazi at the beginning of this week, starting with the session on October 5, which was attended by 102 members, of whom 98 voted in favor of amending the House’s internal regulations and approving a rotating presidency with a maximum term of 12 months. It added that the second session was held on October 6, attended by at least 111 members, during which Abd al-Nabi al-Sawih was elected as Speaker of the House, along with the election of a new presidency. It considered that the priorities of the current stage are unifying institutions, implementing urgent reforms, and holding elections within the timeframe stipulated in the Mini-Summit Agreement signed on August 30.
