Kuwait City, Oct 8 (KUNA) -- October 8:

1955: The opening of Malery Hospital, built by the American Missionary Association, at a grand ceremony attended by Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah.

1961: Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, issued an emiri decree appointing Khalifa Khaled Al-Ghanim as Kuwait’s first ambassador to the United Kingdom.

1990: Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued a decree stating that the value of banknotes stolen from the vaults of the Central Bank of Kuwait during the Iraqi regime’s invasion of Kuwait would not be reimbursed.

2002: A U.S. Marine was killed and another injured in a shootout with two gunmen on Failaka Island.

2007: Kuwait won two awards at the 2007 United Nations World Summit on the Information Society held in Croatia, with more than 160 countries participating, for two e-projects focused on assisting the blind and addressing speech difficulties.

2007: Sheikh Salem Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah passed away at the age of 69. He had held several ministerial portfolios, including Social Affairs, Labor, Defense, Interior, and Foreign Affairs, and served as chairman of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs.

2012: The Kuwaiti jet ski team won first place alongside the United States and Thailand at the World Jet Ski Championship held in Arizona, USA.

2020: His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, took the oath of office before the National Assembly after being unanimously elected Crown Prince by its members.

2021: Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Diwan, Faisal Al-Hajji Bukhuzour, passed away at the age of 74. He had held several ministerial positions.

2022: Kuwaiti competitor Rashid Al-Dawas won the title of the 2022 World Championship in the Professional Super Stock category at the 2022 World Jet Ski Championship held in Arizona, USA.

2022: The World Medical Association announced that the Kuwait Medical Association had won its presidency for the years 2023 and 2024 in elections held at the association’s conference in Berlin.

2022: Kuwaiti photographer Mohamed Murad won first place in the Mont Photo global photography competition in the nature category in Spain.

2024: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a grant agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) worth $2.5 million to support humanitarian financing for 2024–2025.

2025: The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a memorandum of understanding and two grant agreements totaling $4 million, provided to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to support the humanitarian funds for Sudan and Yemen.
