Egypt Firmly Rejects Mention of Sinai in Israeli Finance Minister's Remarks

Cairo, Oct 7 (KUNA) – Egypt on Wednesday firmly rejected the use of the name “Sinai” in statements made by Israel’s finance minister over the past two days. The Middle East News Agency quoted a well-informed Egyptian source as saying that “Egypt does not need any assurances regarding its ability to protect its territory and safeguard its independence against any threats.” The source clarified that the “empty” threats echoed in recent remarks “coincide with Egypt’s celebrations of the 53rd anniversary of the glorious October Victory,” emphasizing that Egypt is fully capable of protecting its land and preserving its sovereignty.

The source described the Israeli minister’s comments on Sinai and the displacement of Palestinian residents from the Gaza Strip over the past two days as “an attempt to employ an empty, escalatory rhetoric to achieve electoral objectives through such statements.” He added that the entire international community is aware that the Israeli occupation bears responsibility for making living conditions in the Gaza Strip nearly impossible, in an effort to force its residents to leave their land and bring an end to the Palestinian cause. Egypt, he stressed, “has not and will not accept” such developments nor participate in them.

The source further noted that Egypt does not tolerate being drawn into political posturing and remains firm in its stance against interfering in the internal affairs of any country. (End) A.F.F. / M.M.J.
