Kuwait City, 7 Oct (KUNA) -- The 14th round of the 2025/2026 Kuwaiti Premier Handball League kicked off on Wednesday, with Al-Salmiya and Al-Arabi declared winners after their opponents, Al-Qadsia and Al-Salmiya, withdrew. According to the regulations of the Kuwait Handball Federation, a team that withdraws is deemed to have lost 10-0 and is subject to a financial fine. Repeated withdrawals can lead to the club being expelled from the league.
Sami Buayyab, head of the handball department at Al-Qadsia Club, told KUNA that the withdrawal was aimed at rebuilding the team from scratch to compete for titles in the near future. He explained that the club decided to rely on its youth categories to establish a new squad, hence the decision to disband the first team to allow it to participate in future league competitions with fresh young talent from the club.
Kuwait Club leads the standings with 23 points, followed by Burqan in second place with 18 points, then Kazma in third with 14 points, Al-Arabi in fourth with 16 points, Al-Qadsia in fifth with 14 points, Al-Salmiya in sixth with 11 points, while Al-Salmiya sits at the bottom with 10 points.
The 14th round resumes tomorrow, Thursday, with two matches: Kazma versus Al-Nasr, and Kuwait versus Burqan, both to be held at the Sheikh Saeed Al-Abdullah Sports Complex.
The handball league was suspended last February due to regional security conditions, followed by the Kuwait national team’s participation in international competitions, before resuming today. (End) H.M.S. / A.M.H.
