Aden, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Tuesday the launch of a military operation to liberate the coastal Al-Wazie’a district in the Red Sea, west of Ta’iz Governorate, as part of the “Fajr al-Yemen” (Yemen Dawn) operation and to seize strategic sites overlooking the Al-Mansoura area. A military source in the Homeland Shield Forces stated that the armed forces had taken control of strategic positions overlooking Al-Mansoura amid the mass flight of Houthi militia fighters.
In the context of military operations, a Yemeni military source told the media center of the Yemeni Armed Forces, under the Ministry of Defense, that government forces continued their ground advance for a second consecutive day in the southern front of Ma’rib Governorate as part of the “Fajr al-Yemen” operation, amid continuous retreat and heavy human and material losses among Houthi militia ranks. The source said that army forces managed on Tuesday to repel Houthi militias from wide areas and strategic commanding positions in southern Ma’rib. He added that the fighting resulted in dozens of militia members killed, wounded, or captured, alongside the destruction of combat crews and casualties among those on board. He noted that government air defenses shot down an enemy drone on the same front.
He pointed out that the armed forces thwarted desperate Houthi attempts on Monday evening to regain positions lost since the launch of the “Fajr al-Yemen” operation, forcing the militias to retreat and flee after inflicting heavy casualties and material losses on them.
For his part, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Majid Al-Nazili said that government forces continued targeting Houthi militia movements, supply lines, and military positions as part of the “Fajr al-Yemen” operation. Al-Nazili affirmed in a press statement the continued provision of safety opportunities for militia members and the opening of the door to amnesty and safe return for anyone who lays down their arms and stops fighting within their ranks. He stressed that the battle to restore the state is ongoing and that the armed forces continue their advance, calling on those fighting in the militia ranks to choose their country before it is too late.
The Yemeni Armed Forces had announced on Monday the launch of the “Fajr al-Yemen” operation to restore state institutions, liberate the capital Sana’a, and end the Houthi militia coup, following the announcement by Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, of the start of military operations to reclaim the remaining territories of the republic and extend state authority over the entire national territory.
