EU Expresses Deep Concern Over Attacks on Commercial Ships in Black Sea

Brussels, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- The European Expressions of concern over the increasing targeting of commercial vessels and their crews in the Black Sea, emphasizing that attacks on civilian navigation are unacceptable. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account that two commercial vessels were targeted today in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, resulting in loss of life at sea. She added that this incident comes just a day after a Turkish ship carrying Ukrainian grain was struck and sank off the Romanian coast. Von der Leyen noted that the exact circumstances and details of these incidents are still under verification, but the developments are “extremely worrying,” reaffirming the EU’s full solidarity with member states on the eastern flank.
