Kuwait City, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- October 6: 1976 - Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues Law Decree No. 70 of 1976, establishing the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) to collect and distribute news to media institutions and individuals, and to highlight Kuwait’s just causes in the regional and international arena. 1994 - The Iraqi regime mobilizes its military forces along the Kuwaiti border, prompting Kuwait to respond by activating its diplomatic efforts, with countries around the world answering Kuwait’s call. 2003 - The United Nations Inspection Commission (UNICOM) concludes its operations after 12 years of work aimed at enhancing security and stability along the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border. 2009 - Kuwait joins the International Ice Hockey Federation, becoming its 67th member. 2010 - Lawyer and writer Mohammed Muhsin Al-Saleh dies at the age of 75; he was a prominent figure in Kuwaiti journalism and served as editor-in-chief of Al-Watan newspaper and Al-Hadaf magazine. 2012 - The Kuwait judo team wins the title of the 16th Gulf Championship, held in Kuwait. 2013 - Visual artist Hussein Al-Misib dies at the age of 78; he was one of the pioneers of the visual arts movement in Kuwait. 2018 - The Kuwait Livestock Transport and Trading Company inaugurates the Capital Abattoir and Central Livestock Market, the largest abattoir of its kind in the Middle East. 2024 - The Martyr’s Office unveils the mural honoring Kuwaiti martyrs in the passenger terminal (T1) at Kuwait International Airport. 2025 - Al-Kuwait Club wins the title of the 37th Arab Basketball Clubs Championship by defeating Lebanese team Al-Hikma 101-93 in the final held in Dubai, securing the title for the second time in its history.
