Tunis, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Tunisia expressed on Monday its readiness to host various initiatives and consultations aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement in Libya that safeguards its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this came during a meeting between Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali al-Nafati and Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), to discuss progress made in the UN initiative aimed at advancing the political process in Libya. Al-Nafati reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the UN mission’s efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement that preserves Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that the settlement must be fully Libyan-owned, without excluding or marginalizing any Libyan party, and under UN auspices. At the same time, he emphasized his country’s adherence to the principle of neutrality and maintaining equal distance from all Libyan parties until a settlement is reached that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people, underscoring the importance of the trilateral consultation mechanism among the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt. Al-Nafati said his country supports reaching a comprehensive and sustainable Libyan-led solution that enhances security and stability in Libya and the region. For her part, the head of UNSMIL expressed appreciation for Tunisia’s supportive stance toward the UN initiative and its encouragement of dialogue and consensus among the various Libyan parties. She reviewed the latest developments in Libya and the progress made in implementing the UN roadmap and the ongoing consultations regarding it. She reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to continuing coordination and consultation with Tunisia and regional and international partners to advance the implementation of the roadmap, according to the Tunisian Foreign Ministry statement.
