Paris, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- France welcomed on Monday Syria’s accession to the International Partnership for Accountability for the Use of Chemical Weapons (PACW). In a statement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “France welcomes the accession of the Syrian Arab Republic to the International Partnership for Accountability for the Use of Chemical Weapons.” The statement added that the partnership, launched in Paris in January 2018 under France’s leadership, brings together 41 countries and the European Union around a common goal: holding those responsible for chemical attacks accountable for their actions. It noted that “Syria’s accession to this partnership marks a break with the practices of the former regime and a new step toward achieving justice for the Syrian people.” The statement also said that France will continue to support Syria’s work with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to help identify, verify, and destroy the remaining elements of Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons program.
