Aden, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Yemeni military sources announced on Monday that forces of the legitimate government have regained control of the Red Sea coastal city of Al-Mukha in the Taiz governorate in southwestern Yemen, following clashes with Iran-backed Houthi militias. The state-run Yemeni News Agency (SABA) quoted a military source as saying that forces from the “National Shield,” “Giants Brigades,” and “Tihama Resistance,” backed by popular resistance, succeeded with air support in taking control of the strategic Red Sea city after confrontations with Houthi militias that had held it since early September.
The source clarified that fighting took place in several locations surrounding Al-Mukha, involving various types of weapons, resulting in casualties and injuries among the militias, the capture of some of their members, and the flight of others. He added that forces are continuing to pursue Houthi militia elements, conducting searches of liberated sites, neighborhoods, and facilities to ensure they are free of any militia pockets.
He affirmed that the armed forces are continuing their military operations in accordance with directives from Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, and as part of the “Dawn of Yemen” operation aimed at restoring state institutions, liberating the capital Sanaa, and ending the Houthi militias’ coup.
Earlier on Monday, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni armed forces, Colonel Majid al-Nazili, announced the control of the Bab al-Mandab area and the road leading to Al-Mukha following a military flanking operation involving forces from the “Giants” and “National Shield.”
Yesterday, Sunday, President al-Alimi announced the start of military operations to reclaim the remaining territories of the Yemeni Republic and extend state authority over the entire national territory.
