Washington, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on Monday Washington’s commitment to security agreements with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing that the United States would honor its obligations to Riyadh amid the ongoing escalation by Houthi militias in Yemen.

Rubio told reporters, “We have security agreements and commitments with Saudi Arabia, and we will fulfill them. I will not discuss further details.”

He added that “Saudi Arabia is aware of the scale of the threat posed by Houthi militias and has the right to defend itself, as Yemeni forces strive to regain control of the territory.”

Rubio emphasized that neither Saudi Arabia nor the Yemeni government would accept Houthi militia control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, noting that the current developments in Yemen constitute a counteroffensive against Houthi aggression. (End) A.M.M. / N.S.A.
