Russia: Strikes on Ukrainian Targets Are in Response to Kyiv's Actions

Moscow, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- The Russian presidency (the Kremlin) said on Monday that Russian strikes against targets in Ukraine are in response to Kyiv’s actions and its expansion of target lists to include Russia’s civilian economic sectors. Russian news agency RIA Novosti quoted Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying that “Ukraine has expanded its list of targets to include civilian and peaceful economic sectors in Russia,” stressing that the Russian strikes are “merely a response to Kyiv’s actions.” Peskov’s remarks follow the Russian Defense Ministry’s announcement on Sunday that Russian forces would intensify strikes on military facilities, defense industry complexes, and related infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions, in response to comments by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding his country’s intention to increase attacks on Russian oil refineries.
