Algiers, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- The 14th edition of the Africa and Mediterranean Basin Energy and Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (Nabec 2026) kicked off today in Oran, western Algeria, under the theme “Toward a New Approach to the Energy Mix: From Energy Transition to Energy Addition: Ensuring Energy Security, Affordability, and Decarbonization.”

The Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines stated in a press release that “the conference addresses key issues related to the future of energy systems by exploring energy mix diversification, energy addition, supply security, affordability, decarbonization, enhanced energy interconnection, and the development of gas, hydrogen, and low-carbon solutions.”

The release added that “the conference will discuss prospects for developing Algeria’s hydrocarbons sector through investment, technology, and innovation; improving the exploitation of mature fields; applying enhanced oil recovery techniques; and the role of regulatory bodies in supporting investment, accelerating project implementation, and ensuring market stability.”

It further noted that discussions will cover “energy efficiency, emissions reduction, digitalization, artificial intelligence, infrastructure and power grid modernization, integration of renewable energy, and low-carbon technologies.”

The conference will also address enhancing production capacities, strengthening energy system resilience, boosting exports outside the hydrocarbons sector, and diversifying the national economy, drawing on international experiences—particularly in innovation, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction—to contribute to the development of a more efficient, resilient, and adaptable energy system capable of meeting rising demand and integrating various energy sources.

More than 450 exhibitors and over 230 speakers representing national and international oil and gas companies, technology and solution providers, engineering and project execution firms, as well as public institutions, research centers, and universities, are participating in the conference, which runs until October 7.

This edition comes as Algeria seeks to strengthen its role as a reliable energy actor and a bridge connecting Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, and Europe by developing its resources, enhancing its infrastructure, and encouraging investment, innovation, and partnerships that serve energy security and sustainable development.
