Pakistan Participates in Strategic Committee Meeting for Mecca Convention for Joint Defense in Riyadh

Islamabad, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar is set to travel today, Monday, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as part of a high-level delegation to attend a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, established under the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that the delegation includes Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and other senior military officials. The ministry added that the meeting, which will see the participation of foreign ministers, defense ministers, and chiefs of general staff from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, will discuss the latest developments in the region and review existing cooperation under the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense. It emphasized that Pakistan’s participation in the meeting reflects its determination to continue contributing to regional peace and stability. The Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense, signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan last August, aims to enhance collective deterrence against any aggression and stipulates that any armed attack on any of the three countries is considered an attack on all. The agreement also focuses on developing all aspects of defense cooperation among the three nations. (End) S.B.K./S.M.A.
