Kuwait City, 4 Oct (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Journalists Association stated that the new media regulation law, in principle, addressed the stagnation of the three existing laws and their inability to keep pace with the media sector, which has undergone radical transformations driven by technological and digital developments.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the association noted that it closely followed the New Media Regulation Law No. 102 of 2026 after its publication and entry into force, as well as the issuance of its executive regulations and necessary decisions to implement its provisions, within six months from the date the law decree was published in the Official Gazette.
The association added that the chapters of the new law and its explanatory memorandum emphasized that media freedom would remain a cornerstone of the State of Kuwait’s approach, and that the newly enacted media legislation would safeguard this freedom. It affirmed the pride of the association’s members and all professionals working in Kuwaiti press and media institutions in the climate of respect for press freedoms, which they consistently highlight before the international community.
It pointed out that this new law reaffirmed this pride, while expressing the hope that it would genuinely keep pace with a contemporary media environment in terms of legislation and professionalism, maintaining the enduring motto of Kuwaiti journalism and media: “Freedom … Responsibility.”
The Kuwait Journalists Association expressed its hope that the views and observations of local press institutions regarding this law and its executive regulations would receive attention from the executive authority, in order to enhance the progress of Kuwaiti journalism and preserve its distinguished heritage.
The Official Gazette (Kuwait Today) published, in its issue No. 1811 issued on Sunday, a law decree No. 102 of 2026 issuing the Media Regulation Law. Article Two of the aforementioned law decree tasked the competent minister with issuing the executive regulations for this law within six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, as well as issuing the necessary decisions to implement its provisions.
