Egyptian President Emphasizes Importance of Preserving Sudan's Unity, Sovereignty, and Territorial Integrity
Cairo, Oct 4 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reaffirmed today, Sunday, his country’s firm stance supporting the Sudanese people and committed to preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the cohesion of its national institutions.
In a statement, Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, said this position was expressed during a meeting between President el-Sisi and Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held on the sidelines of the African Union’s eighth mid-year coordination meeting in New Alamein.
The spokesperson clarified that the meeting discussed developments in Sudan, where el-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s continued efforts at both regional and international levels to advance a political solution to the crisis, contribute to ending the war, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, thereby enabling Sudan to restore its security and stability and embark on reconstruction and development.
El-Shenawy added that al-Burhan expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s supportive positions toward Sudan, emphasizing that they reflect the unique historical and fraternal ties between the two peoples. He commended Egypt for the political and humanitarian support it provides to Sudan, as well as for hosting a large number of Sudanese who were forced to flee their country due to the war.
Al-Burhan stressed the importance of maintaining equality among Sudan’s legitimate state institutions, rebel militias, and parallel entities, and he welcomed Egypt’s clear and firm stance on this issue.
The spokesperson noted that the talks also covered ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. President el-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continuing its support for Sudanese people across various fields and enhancing bilateral cooperation frameworks to serve shared interests and meet the aspirations of the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples for development and prosperity.
