Beijing, March 10 (KUNA) -- China announced on Saturday the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into imports of the chemical para-nitrotoluene from the European Union. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement carried by the Xinhua News Agency that the probe into EU imports of para-nitrotoluene was initiated at the request of the domestic industry, noting that preliminary evidence submitted by the petitioners showed that import volumes of the product from the EU remained at high levels while prices fell by about 60 percent between 2022 and 2025. The ministry affirmed that this had caused injury to the Chinese domestic industry in terms of production and operational performance, and announced its intention to open an investigation in accordance with laws and regulations to safeguard the rights of all interested parties and to render a ruling in an objective and fair manner. It emphasized that China adopts a cautious and self-restrained approach when taking trade remedy measures, pointing out that the EU side had launched 28 investigations against China since 2025, with about half concerning Chinese chemical products, and that the most recent three investigations targeted polyvinyl chloride. The ministry urged the European Union to properly handle its own economic and trade issues and to address the concerns of both sides through dialogue and consultation. Para-nitrotoluene is mainly used in the production of chemicals widely employed in the dye, pesticide, and pharmaceutical industries. (End) S.L.Q./A.M.S.
