OCHA: $160 million allocated to support humanitarian aid in 12 crises

New York, October 3 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced the allocation of $160 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to support life-saving aid in 12 humanitarian crises worldwide facing severe funding shortfalls. In a statement issued Friday evening, OCHA said the allocations are part of broader efforts to reach 87 million people facing the most acute humanitarian needs this year. It clarified that $150 million of the funding will be directed to humanitarian responses in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cuba, Mali, Niger, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Yemen. The allocations also include $10 million to meet the urgent needs of persons with disabilities in the 12 crises and to make humanitarian assistance more accessible and inclusive. CERF is the UN’s global emergency fund, managed by OCHA, which provides funding for rapid response and emergency situations that suffer from funding gaps. With these allocations, the total funding committed by the fund since the beginning of 2026 has risen to $483 million. (End) A.S.T. / M.M.J.
