Baghdad, June 3 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Coordinating Framework has reaffirmed its commitment to June 30 of next year as the final deadline for addressing the issue of weapons outside the state framework. This was stated during an emergency meeting of the Framework, held late Friday evening at the invitation of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the government palace. The meeting focused on discussing current political and security developments and the requirements of the post-international coalition mission phase and the withdrawal of foreign forces (Sovereignty Day), regarded as a pivotal and historic milestone in consolidating Iraq’s independence and stability.
In a statement, the Framework expressed appreciation for the efforts of its Quadripartite Committee, which led the dialogue to reach this agreement, emphasizing the need for the committee to continue its work at the same pace until June 30, the agreed-upon final deadline for implementing the constitutional provision concerning the handling of the weapons issue.
The Framework also commended the international coalition’s commitment to withdrawing from Iraq within the stipulated timeframe, acknowledging its “significant role” in combating terrorism. It further highlighted the “high capacity” of the Iraqi government and state, which enables it to safeguard all components of Iraq and make the country a secure investment environment.
