US President Announces European Approval to Release 'Massive Amount' of Diesel Reserves 'Immediately'

Washington, Oct 2 (KUNA) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that European leaders have agreed to release a “massive amount” from their diesel fuel stockpiles to help ease the surge in prices, with the process set to begin “immediately.” Trump stated in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, “Europe has just agreed to release a massive amount from its large diesel stockpiles,” adding that they “will start the process immediately.” Trump’s announcement followed a virtual meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) earlier on Friday to “address the escalating challenges to energy security.” In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the group confirmed it had agreed on a coordinated release—through the International Energy Agency (IEA)—of a total of 100 million barrels, to begin immediately and unfold over four months, including a large and early release of diesel quantities within the first 20 days by group members and their partners. The joint statement noted that the group would meet under the auspices of the IEA “in the coming days to discuss the possibility of releasing additional diesel quantities as necessary.” The G7 comprises the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
