Brussels, Feb 10 (KUNA) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed on Friday the Group of Seven (G7) decision not to impose any bans on energy exports to allies, emphasizing the importance of continued solidarity among partners to ensure affordable energy for citizens. In a post on the X platform, von der Leyen said the G7 countries would closely coordinate to achieve this goal, expressing her support for the release of fuel reserves in coordination with the International Energy Agency (IEA). She stressed the need to continue the transition to clean energy to strengthen energy security.
Earlier on Friday, the G7 reaffirmed its commitment to refraining from imposing any restrictions or bans on energy exports and products among member countries and their allies, as part of shared understandings aimed at ensuring stability in global energy markets and curbing sharp fuel price increases.
As part of the measures adopted during a virtual meeting, the group announced the immediate release of 100 million barrels of diesel over four months, coordinated by the IEA, along with an intensive and early drawdown during the first 20 days.
Earlier on Friday, the European Union firmly rejected a potential U.S. ban on diesel exports, warning that such a move would undermine confidence in the United States as a reliable partner amid growing pressure to lower energy prices. (End) A.R.N. / R.J.
