Berlin, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- Commemorative events marking the 36th anniversary of German reunification kicked off today in Bremen, northern Germany, with the participation of senior officials, amid expectations that the three-day festivities will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. The Bremen city government said the celebrations, which run until October 4, will feature more than 550 diverse events, including musical and cultural performances, exhibitions, and interactive family activities, and are expected to draw around 400,000 visitors. Official ceremonies scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, will see German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner, the President of the Bundesrat, and Bremen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte, along with other senior officials, take part. The events will also feature members of the federal government engaging in direct meetings and dialogues with citizens, including Nina Warken, Head of the Federal Chancellery; Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil; and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. This year’s celebrations are held under the slogan “Many Forces – One Country,” with activities spread across central Bremen up to the Weserstadion area, involving Germany’s federal states and federal constitutional institutions. Germany annually commemorates the reunification of the two German states in 1990 on October 3, following decades of division between East and West Germany, making it the country’s official national holiday.
