Brussels, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- The European Commission announced on Friday the disbursement of 2.9 billion euros ($3.26 billion) to Ukraine to support its financing needs and maintain the functioning of public administration in the country, following its success in implementing reforms in several strategic sectors.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement that Ukraine continues to carry out comprehensive reforms while defending itself in its war with Russia, emphasizing that the new tranche helps protect Ukraine’s financial stability and supports investments that will contribute to its future recovery.

She added that this tranche is the eighth under the “Ukraine Facility,” the European Union’s main instrument to support Ukraine’s recovery, reform agenda, and progress toward EU membership.

She noted that this tranche includes, for the first time, additional funding of 800 million euros (approximately $900 million) provided under the 2026 Ukraine Support Loan.

The disbursement comes after Ukraine’s success in implementing reforms in several strategic sectors, including the judiciary, financial markets, human capital, the business environment, energy, transport, agriculture, and the green transition.

The Commission clarified that Ukraine still has access to financial support worth 33.7 billion euros ($37.84 billion) for the remainder of 2026, of which 29.3 billion euros ($32.90 billion) is available for disbursement under the Ukraine Support Loan. This includes 16.6 billion euros ($18.64 billion) to support Ukraine’s defense industrial capabilities and 12.7 billion euros ($14.26 billion) to support the budget.

The European Commission stressed that Kyiv’s implementation of reforms and jointly agreed conditions with the EU is essential for proceeding with the disbursement of future funding. (End) A.R.N. / A.M.S.
