Jeddah, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Greek coach Giorgos Donis of the Saudi national football team said on Friday that the technical staff is studying the strengths and weaknesses of the Qatari national team and is seeking to impose their style of play in their semi-final clash tomorrow, Saturday, at the 27th Gulf Cup of Arab Nations held in Jeddah.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the match at King Abdullah Sports City, Donis noted that the Qatari squad features experienced players and is led by an outstanding technical staff, adding that the Saudi team is aiming for victory and a spot in the final.

He emphasized that the technical staff pays great attention to analyzing opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, with a focus on implementing the Saudi team’s style on the pitch. He pointed out that maintaining possession and making correct decisions help create chances and enhance attacking effectiveness.

Donis highlighted that the physical demands of recent matches posed challenges for the players after three games in six days, necessitating continuous monitoring of all squad members’ fitness. He clarified that defender Zakaria Al-Hawsawi will be unavailable for upcoming matches, while Hassan Tambakti’s status will be determined after an assessment before the game.

The coach stressed the importance of leveraging technical and statistical data from previous matches, as well as maintaining focus and discipline from arrival through training sessions. He praised the players’ high morale and positive communication within the group.

Donis also underscored the vital role of Saudi fans in supporting the team, noting that their presence has contributed to a distinctive atmosphere throughout the tournament, and expressed his hope to see full stands for tomorrow’s match.

For his part, Saudi player Abdullah Al-Salem confirmed the team’s readiness for the Qatar clash, stressing the need to raise concentration levels compared to the group stage. He said the semi-final differs from previous matches due to its importance and the value of an opponent with extensive experience and a record full of continental achievements. Al-Salem added that the Saudi team possesses outstanding players and is aiming for the final.

He noted that scoring goals is the result of teamwork, with all players contributing to positive results, and affirmed that the shared objective is to represent the national team in the best possible way and compete for the championship title. (End) K.N.S. / M.A.A.
