EU warns of repercussions of potential US restrictions on diesel exports
Brussels, January 10 (KUNA) – European Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič warned today, Thursday, of the “dangerous” repercussions of U.S. moves to impose restrictions on diesel exports on the European Union’s economic performance. Šefčovič told journalists that he had discussed with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer the situation regarding diesel supplies and rising prices, expressing the EU’s desire to adopt a coordinated approach with the United States to lower prices. He stressed that imposing restrictions on diesel exports would have “very serious consequences for our economic performance,” noting that both sides had agreed to maintain constant contact “to avoid any surprises in this regard.” U.S. President Donald Trump had recently revealed his intention to ban U.S. diesel exports, but later backed down, indicating that his administration is exploring alternative ways to reduce fuel prices in the United States.
