Aden, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Thursday that they repelled a series of wide-ranging, coordinated attacks launched by the Houthi militia across multiple fronts and axes in Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen, inflicting dozens of casualties. The Armed Forces’ media center quoted military sources as saying that army troops, backed by popular resistance forces and the air force, broke a wave of Houthi militia attacks accompanied by heavy fire support that began Wednesday evening in the districts of Jabal Habashi and Maqbanah, west of Taiz, and on the Al-Aqroud – Al-Masrak front in the eastern part of the governorate.
The clashes also spread to the Al-Kadha and Jabal Han fronts, as well as the northern and eastern fronts of Taiz city, resulting in dozens of Houthi militia members killed, wounded, or captured across various fronts, including field commanders. Significant military equipment was also destroyed or damaged.
The sources noted that at least 30 Houthi fighters were killed by government forces’ fire on the Al-Aqroud front alone, with more than 50 others wounded during the clashes, which involved the use of various types of weapons.
The Yemeni army’s air force targeted scattered Houthi militia positions and concentrations in several airstrikes southeast of Taiz and on the Hamir front in Maqbanah district to the west, inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment on the militia.
The source confirmed that the Armed Forces continue to counter Houthi militia movements and attacks on several fronts in the governorate, maintaining a high state of readiness to face ongoing escalation. (End) S.N.S./A.M.S.
