Kuwait City, 1 Oct (KUNA) – Namaa Charity, the charitable arm of Kuwait’s Al-Islah Social Association, signed a cooperation agreement today, Thursday, with the Hussein Cancer Foundation in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, valued at $500,000, to support a comprehensive psychological and therapeutic care project for Palestinian and Syrian refugee children with cancer in Jordan, with each party contributing $250,000.

Saud Al-Otaibi, CEO of Namaa Charity, told KUNA that the agreement is an extension of the humanitarian message carried by Kuwaiti charitable work, emphasizing its commitment to supporting the most needy patients and providing healthcare to children unable to afford treatment, thereby helping to alleviate their suffering and that of their families.

Al-Otaibi explained that the project aims to provide comprehensive psychological and therapeutic support to refugee children in collaboration with a specialized institution possessing the necessary expertise and medical capabilities. He stressed that care extends beyond medical treatment to include supporting children and their families in coping with the psychological and human burdens associated with the disease.

He added that the agreement relies on clear criteria for selecting beneficiaries, including medical and social assessments, economic status, and the absence of other entities able to cover treatment costs, alongside monitoring mechanisms and financial reporting to ensure that support reaches those entitled to it and to enhance transparency in managing resources allocated to the project.

For her part, Nisreen Qatamsha, Director General of the Hussein Cancer Foundation, emphasized in a similar statement to KUNA the importance of the partnership with Namaa Charity in providing healthcare to refugee children with cancer, helping to alleviate their suffering and enhance their chances of receiving necessary treatment.

Qatamsha said the project provides integrated care, including medical treatment and psychological and social support for children and their families, helping them face the challenges of the disease and the difficult humanitarian conditions resulting from displacement.

She explained that the foundation follows precise procedures for case evaluation, beginning with a medical assessment by a specialized team and a social study of the patient before presenting their file to relevant committees to determine the treatment plan according to medical priorities and established standards. She expressed her appreciation for the role of Kuwaiti charitable institutions in supporting health and humanitarian programs.

For his part, Abdulaziz Al-Kandari, Deputy CEO of Namaa Charity, told KUNA that the agreement aligns with the association’s strategy to develop high-quality humanitarian partnerships and transform contributions from donors into health programs with tangible impact. He noted that focusing on cancer treatment reflects the scale of needs faced by families unable to afford treatment costs.

Al-Kandari added that the agreement includes an integrated system to ensure aid reaches its intended beneficiaries, starting with case studies and treatment prioritization, through to monitoring expenditures and preparing periodic financial reports, thereby enhancing trust and transparency and contributing to providing treatment opportunities for refugee children and alleviating their suffering.
