Kuwait City, 1 Oct (KUNA) – Dr. Khaled Al-Zamil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology (STC), stated that industrial investments linked to the telecommunications sector create opportunities for knowledge transfer and the development of specialized skills in manufacturing, inspection, and quality control, thereby enhancing Kuwait’s industrial capabilities and supporting the needs of digital transformation.
In an interview with KUNA on Thursday, Dr. Al-Zamil emphasized the importance of locally manufacturing fiber optic cables, describing them as a fundamental component of telecommunications and data transmission networks. He noted that fixed internet services, as well as the interconnection of telecommunications stations and data centers, rely on these cables.
He explained that local production of such cables supports digital infrastructure expansion and maintenance projects, contributes to diversifying supply sources, and reduces reliance on importing finished products. He added that developing industrial capabilities in this field is gaining increasing importance due to rising demand for high-speed connectivity, cloud services, and applications that require the transfer of large volumes of data, stressing the necessity of adhering to approved technical specifications to ensure the efficiency of fiber optic cables.
The visit included an inspection of the factory’s operations, production capacities, and quality control procedures. The delegation was received by Atallah Al-Mutairi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Taihan Kuwait Fiber Optic Cables Company, and Jang Hee-lee, Chief Executive Officer of the company.
Accompanied by a delegation from the Authority, Dr. Al-Zamil reviewed the factory’s activities in producing fiber optic cables, including those used for connecting fibers to homes and distribution networks, as well as the manufacturing stages and quality testing processes. (End) M.D. / A.M.H.
