EU condemns attack on hospital in Somalia

Brussels, September 30 (KUNA) -- EU Commissioner for Equality and Crisis Preparedness and Management, Nadiya Hashim, on Wednesday condemned the attacks in the Somali city of Baydhabo that resulted in injuries to children and damage to a hospital funded by the European Union. In a post on the X platform, Hashim stated that “the attacks in Baydhabo, Somalia, which injured children and damaged a hospital funded by the European Union, are unacceptable.” She called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and safeguard health sector workers and facilities, while ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid. Baydhabo witnessed violent clashes on September 28 that left dead and wounded, including children, and caused damage to the EU-funded hospital following an explosion near the facility during the fighting. Relief organizations reported that patients, health workers, and companions were injured, hospital departments were damaged, and an ambulance was affected. (End) A.R.N.
