UK Prime Minister: 'Strong indicators' of Iran's involvement in 'terrorist plot' against Fairford military base

London, September 30 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Wednesday that there are “strong indications” of Iran’s involvement in the “terrorist plot” that sought to target the US Fairford Air Base in Britain. In a press statement, Burnham affirmed that the case remains a “complex and highly serious security investigation,” which prevents him from providing further details at this stage. He explained that dealing with the incident had consumed a significant amount of his time over the past few days, prompting him to chair an emergency meeting of the National Emergency Committee on Monday. He added that he would not hesitate to summon Parliament if the situation required it.

British police arrested five men last Sunday near the Fairford base in Gloucestershire, western England. The county police said security forces inspected three transport vehicles and carried out controlled explosions, but only an unknown quantity of gasoline was found.
