Manama, September 30 (KUNA) -- Bahrain’s Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Amina Al-Rumaihi, said on Wednesday that rapid developments and digital transformation are opening broader horizons for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to develop their housing services, enhance their efficiency and sustainability, and provide citizens with more diverse options.
She made these remarks while chairing the 24th meeting of ministers responsible for housing and urban planning affairs in GCC member states, held in Manama. The meeting was attended by ministers and officials concerned with the housing sector in GCC countries, including Abdul Latif Al-Mutairi, Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, as well as Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC.
Al-Rumaihi noted that the housing sector’s expansion in adopting modern technologies, innovative financing solutions, and digital transformation offers opportunities to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of housing services and broaden the options available to citizens in line with their needs.
She pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain has prepared a guide to digital platforms for individual housing financing in GCC countries, which has been endorsed by member states, reflecting a shared commitment to leveraging modern digital solutions to develop the housing financing system.
She added that the preparation of the guide underscores the importance of practical initiatives in supporting the progress of joint GCC efforts, enhancing integration, and exchanging successful experiences and expertise among GCC countries, while harnessing digital transformation to develop the housing financing system.
Al-Rumaihi emphasized the significance of the GCC ministerial meeting coinciding with the second edition of the 2026 Conference and Exhibition on Innovation in the Social Housing Sector, which provides an opportunity to exchange expertise, explore innovative solutions and practices, and support GCC cooperation and integration in the housing field.
The meeting’s agenda included a number of priority topics aimed at advancing joint GCC housing efforts, including the development of housing policies and programs, sustainable urban planning, legislation and guidelines, partnerships with the private sector and financial institutions, as well as the adoption of modern technologies and digital transformation, and the exchange of expertise, experiences, and information among GCC countries.
