Baghdad, September 30 (KUNA) – Iraqi President Nizar al-Amidi reaffirmed on Wednesday that Iraq’s sovereignty, the independence of its national decision-making, the unity of its territory, and the integrity of its institutions are supreme constants that admit no compromise.

In a statement marking the conclusion of the coalition forces’ mission and the completion of their withdrawal from the country, which Iraq designated as “Sovereignty Day,” al-Amidi stated that the will of the Iraqi people and their national interests form the foundation for shaping the country’s present and future, and for determining its choices and relationships.

He added that sovereignty is only fully realized in a strong state with entrenched institutions, effective rule of law, a monopoly on sovereign decision-making, and the exercise of its constitutional responsibilities across its entire territory.

Al-Amidi emphasized that the authority to declare peace or war is an exclusive right of the state and its constitutional institutions. Moreover, the control of weapons and their placement under state authority, along with subjecting all forms of force to the provisions of the constitution and the law, constitute a fundamental pillar in safeguarding sovereignty, protecting stability, and reinforcing the state’s authority.

He renewed his call for all political forces in Iraq to assume their responsibilities in protecting the unity of Iraq’s decision-making, prioritizing the state’s higher interests above all else, strengthening national cohesion, and shielding Iraq from conflicts and divisions.

Earlier today, the international coalition against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq officially announced the end of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and the completion of the withdrawal of its last troops from the province of Erbil. (End)
