Egypt and Saudi Arabia Stress the Need to Maintain Freedom of Navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab

Cairo, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, agreed on the necessity of preserving freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that this came during a phone call between the two ministers, as part of the continuous communication between the two brotherly countries to consult and coordinate on various issues of mutual concern. The statement clarified that the ministers discussed developments in the regional situation, including developments in Yemen, Iran, and the Red Sea region. It added that Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s full support for the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its firm rejection of any attacks on its territory or attempts to undermine its integrity, affirming Egypt’s complete solidarity and support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and security. The two ministers also discussed, according to the statement, the fraternal and strategic relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to continuing to advance common cooperation tracks and mechanisms in various fields.
