Washington, September 29 (KUNA) — The United States announced on Tuesday the imposition of sanctions on 10 individuals and entities across multiple jurisdictions, aiming to dismantle Iranian military procurement networks as part of the “Economic Outcast” campaign launched last month to isolate Iran from the global economic and financial system.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said that sanctions imposed by its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) “target the prevention of arms and weapons components supplied to the Iranian Ministry of Defense and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” noting that the department “oversees organizations involved in the development of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized in the statement that his department “will continue to target and disrupt those who provide material, technological, or financial support enabling the Iranian regime to persist in its terrorist activities,” stressing that the U.S. “will not tolerate any support for the regime and will continue to identify, expose, and isolate entities that enable Iran’s activities.”
The Treasury noted that today’s measures “further undermine the Iranian regime’s ability to rebuild its weapons programs, while increasing the cost for those who choose to assist Tehran’s military procurement efforts.” It reiterated warnings that “any entity facilitating money laundering or circumventing sanctions on behalf of Iran risks being cut off from the U.S. financial system,” and stressed the “likelihood that entities continuing commercial dealings with the Iranian regime will face secondary sanctions,” affirming that the U.S. will accelerate the pace of enforcement actions.
