Tunis, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The Presidential Council and the High State Council in Libya stressed on Tuesday the necessity of unifying state institutions and advancing a comprehensive political process, as well as organizing elections to conclude the transitional phase. The Libyan News Agency reported that this came during a meeting held by Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Menfi and his deputy, Abdullah al-Lafi, with High State Council Chairman Mohamed al-Takal, where they reviewed ways to implement constitutional obligations and efforts aimed at addressing the current deadlock, reaffirming the need to push forward a comprehensive political process to pave the way for elections conducted in accordance with sound electoral laws. The agency added that the meeting emphasized the necessity of advancing a comprehensive political process that does not exclude any of the relevant institutions and parties, and is based on the principle of Libyan ownership of the solution, while the UN and international roles remain supportive and reinforcing of this path, alongside intensified efforts to unify Libya’s state institutions in line with the requirements of the current stage, thereby strengthening the country’s unity, stability, and sovereignty. It clarified that the participants also affirmed that the primary objective of any political consensus is to create suitable conditions for holding free and fair elections based on a constitutional framework and sound electoral laws that enjoy the broadest possible national consensus, thereby ending transitional phases and leading to unified and stable institutions. The meeting followed the Libyan House of Representatives’ issuance yesterday, Monday, of a package of laws and decisions, including laws amending the election of the head of state, adopting Law No. 10 of 2014 on the election of the House of Representatives, suspending Law No. 28 of 2023 on the election of the House of Representatives, a decision to reconstitute the High National Elections Commission, and a decision to adopt the agreement of the Mini-Dialogue Committee (4+4).
