Brussels, September 29 (KUNA) -- EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen warned on Tuesday that Europe is heading for a difficult winter amid expected sharp rises in oil and gas prices against the backdrop of the US-Iran conflict, while simultaneously ruling out predictions of supply security problems. Speaking to journalists after a meeting of European energy ministers in Dublin, Jørgensen said there was “no doubt that we are approaching a winter full of challenges,” adding that “Europe is facing a tough winter in terms of energy prices and must take action to confront these challenges.” He affirmed that the EU’s strategic direction is clear, focusing on boosting local clean energy production, improving energy efficiency, expanding electricity interconnection networks, and increasing reliance on electricity. As part of efforts to ease pressure on energy markets, Jørgensen proposed delaying the implementation of the EU’s new rules aimed at reducing methane emissions by one year to alleviate pressures on energy markets under current conditions.
