Manama, September 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha), participated today in the 12th meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Combating Corruption of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in Manama.

The meeting adopted the recommendations stemming from the specialized GCC workshop on combating corruption and identifying beneficial ownership, which was organized by Nazaha in coordination with the GCC Secretariat General in July 2026. The workshop involved relevant anti-corruption authorities, ministries of trade and industry in GCC member states, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The workshop focused on identifying individuals who own or effectively control companies, and highlighted the importance of such information in combating corruption and limiting the use of companies to conceal illicit proceeds. The adoption of these recommendations supports GCC efforts aimed at enhancing ownership transparency and cooperation among competent authorities.

The meeting discussed several topics and proposals aimed at developing joint GCC efforts to prevent and combat corruption, including studying the feasibility of a common GCC anti-corruption strategy to facilitate coordination and the exchange of expertise among member states. It also discussed a proposal to hold a workshop titled “Mechanisms for Enhancing Integrity and Compliance in the Private Sector,” as part of efforts to strengthen national capacities and support the role of the private sector in safeguarding integrity and consolidating responsible business practices.

Additionally, the meeting approved the results of the evaluation of research papers participating in the GCC’s 2026 competition for research and studies in the fields of integrity protection and anti-corruption, under the theme “Combating Corruption through Non-Judicial Means: Theoretical Approaches and Practical Experiences.”

The Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting was headed by Dr. Rana Al-Faris, Chairperson of the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha), and included heads of anti-corruption authorities from GCC member states. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Thani, Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs at the GCC Secretariat General.

Nazaha’s participation in the meeting aligns with Kuwait’s commitment to contributing to the development of joint GCC initiatives and supporting cooperation among anti-corruption authorities, thereby enhancing integrity and transparency, safeguarding the achievements of GCC member states, and serving their peoples.
