Moscow, September 29 (KUNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on Tuesday for a careful review of Russia’s military doctrine, in response to Poland’s proposal to host Patriot missile systems on its territory. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Valdai Club meeting, Lavrov said Russia has a military doctrine that addresses such issues, urging a review of the relevant section, in reference to Moscow’s stance on the Polish proposal.
Regarding Russia-U.S. communications, Lavrov clarified that experts preparing for a Russian-American meeting on tension-reducing factors still need to agree on the meeting’s date and venue. He noted that several issues are on the agenda, including the matter of diplomatic property.
Lavrov reiterated that no Russian-American contacts have yet taken place on several “contentious issues.”
On the European position regarding developments related to Russia, Lavrov stated that “Europe is waging a war against Russia,” describing this as “an undeniable reality.”
Lavrov’s remarks come as European positions continue to evolve toward strengthening defensive capabilities in the face of security threats, while Moscow repeatedly asserts that any military steps it considers a threat to its security will be taken into account within its military doctrine.
The 23rd annual Valdai International Discussion Club meeting began in Moscow on Monday and will continue until October 1, with around 120 experts from 40 countries participating to discuss the future of the international order and geopolitical, economic, and technological transformations.
