Sudanese Foreign Minister: Comprehensive and Lasting Peace Requires Halting External Interference
New York, September 28 (KUNA) -- Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohiuddin Salem affirmed today, Monday, that achieving comprehensive, lasting, and just peace in his country requires halting external interventions and the flow of arms and ammunition. This statement was made by Salem during his address at the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Salem stated that his country is open to “any constructive and sincere effort” aimed at ending the war in a manner that ensures peace, preserves Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and political independence, and guarantees that no new armed rebellion emerges. At the same time, he expressed Sudan’s firm rejection of “any attempts to impose solutions, dictates, or external agendas,” emphasizing that the Sudanese people alone must determine their future without external influence or pressure.
He stressed the necessity of disarming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), monopolizing weapons in the hands of the state and its national institutions, and supporting the progress made by the Sudanese government in protecting civilians and advancing the peacebuilding process. Salem warned that talk of peace and stability in Sudan is impossible as long as what he described as “external interventions” persist, which target his country’s strategic location, geopolitical position, and natural resources.
He criticized what he termed the “international community’s silence” regarding violations attributed to the RSF, calling for measures to curb the cross-border flow of weapons, equipment, and mercenaries. He affirmed that responding to Sudan’s demands in this regard represents “the fastest path to ending the war and protecting civilians in Sudan.”
On the political settlement, the Sudanese minister noted that his country has supported the efforts of UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative Pika Havisto and has engaged with proposals and initiatives aimed at halting the war. He pointed out that the Sudanese government submitted a roadmap to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General in December 2025 to exit the crisis and restore stability, alongside a comprehensive plan for civilian protection and its implementation.
Regarding the political solution, Salem affirmed that a comprehensive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue based on “national ownership” constitutes one of the key pillars and the optimal path to addressing the current crisis. He urged that the dialogue be conducted with “pure Sudanese will,” free from external interventions, bargaining, and intimidation, while implementing the provisions of the Jeddah Declaration between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, facilitating humanitarian work, and meeting the needs of civilians.
