Lebanese Prime Minister Discusses Cooperation Path with World Bank Group

Beirut, September 28 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam today held talks on the trajectory of cooperation between Lebanon and the World Bank Group, and on ways to expand it in line with the government’s priorities for reform, recovery, and reconstruction.

In a statement, the prime minister’s media office said Salam met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga and International Finance Corporation President Makhtar Diop at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C., in the presence of World Bank Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde, International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes Director-General Tsutomu Yamamoto, and World Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Abdulaziz Al-Mulla.

The statement noted that the Lebanese prime minister emphasized the importance of working on developing regional connectivity and integration projects in the infrastructure and energy sectors. It added that the meeting discussed projects supported by the World Bank in Lebanon and ways to secure additional support and financing for priority projects, particularly in the energy, water, and infrastructure sectors, as well as digital transformation and social safety nets.

Also participating in the meeting with the prime minister were Finance Minister Yassin Jaber, Energy and Water Minister Joe Sadek, and Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, Nada Hammad Maawad. (End) A.Y.B. / R.J.
