UAE Emphasizes Necessity of Protecting Freedom of Navigation and Securing Trade and Energy Flows
New York, September 28 (KUNA) -- UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Al Marri affirmed on Monday the necessity of safeguarding freedom of navigation and the right of passage, and ensuring the safe flow of supply chains, trade, and energy, in accordance with relevant provisions of international law.
In a statement on behalf of the United Arab Emirates during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Al Marri reiterated the UAE’s commitment to upholding international principles that guarantee the safety of maritime routes and the continuity of trade and energy supplies, amid growing threats to navigation in the region and beyond.
On the Palestinian issue, Al Marri affirmed his country’s support for implementing a comprehensive plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, along with the associated road map. He emphasized the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip and the West Bank under a Palestinian authority capable of fulfilling its responsibilities and monopolizing the use of force. He called for an end to Israeli escalation in the West Bank, particularly settlement expansion activities, and reaffirmed the UAE’s continued provision of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and the implementation of humanitarian and development projects in the West Bank.
Regarding Sudan, Al Marri stressed “the necessity of ending the humanitarian catastrophe in this Arab country, reaching a permanent and unconditional ceasefire, and launching a comprehensive and credible political process that leads to the formation of a civilian government independent of the warring parties and extremist groups.” He confirmed his country’s continued support for peace efforts in Yemen, Libya, the Sahel region, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Haiti, and other regions.
The UAE minister emphasized that his country will continue its approach of moderation, rejection of violence and extremism, and investment in human capital and the region’s abundant potential. (End) A.S.T. / S.A.M.
