Riyadh, September 28 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Bedaiwi today, Monday, strongly condemned the incursion by extremists from the Israeli occupation government into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, as well as the continued incursions by settlers and their performance of provocative rituals inside the site under the protection of Israeli occupation forces. In a statement, Al-Bedaiwi said that these violations constitute a blatant assault on the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and an unacceptable escalation that would inflame tensions and undermine security and stability in the region. He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take urgent and resolute action to halt these violations and preserve the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. He reaffirmed the steadfast position of GCC member states in supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
