Kuwait City, 28 September (KUNA) – The Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah (Institute for the Study of Islamic Art) today inaugurated the events of its 31st cultural season at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre, under the theme “Two Doors on Mondays.” The schedule features scientific and cultural lectures with participation from local and international researchers and experts, musical evenings, theatrical performances, seasonal festivals, specialized workshops, and activities for children and adolescents.
The launch of the season was attended by Sheikhah Hessa Sabah Al-Salem, the General Supervisor of the Institute, along with a number of diplomats, academics, media figures, and individuals interested in cultural and heritage affairs.
In a press statement, Sheikhah Hessa emphasized that the launch of the 31st cultural season represents a continuation of the civilizational vision laid down by the late Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on him. She added, “Today, we continue to complete this journey, ensuring that Kuwait remains a beacon of culture and human heritage, and a canopy for dialogue among peoples.”
Sheikhah Hessa noted that this season, rich in its programs, places children and the new generation at the core of its focus, stressing that “building the awareness of future generations regarding their heritage and authenticity is the true bet we are working on, reaffirming that our cultural mission is renewed and ongoing, year after year.”
For his part, Badr Al-Buainain, Chairman of the Founding Committee of the Friends of the Institute, said in a speech that Monday of each week will serve as “two doors”: one for knowledge through lectures, and the other for music through musical events. He highlighted that other important activities, both domestically and internationally, will continue with full momentum. This season includes a rich array of international exhibitions from the Al-Sabah Collection, alongside ongoing artistic performances, workshops, films, and activities dedicated to children and families. He stressed the continued focus on establishing the Institute as a leading entity in driving and creating purposeful cultural activities and events.
The Institute kicked off its 31st season with a rich annual lecture delivered by Dr. Ziad Rajab, titled “The Fabric of Beauty: How Ornamentation and Textiles Unite Civilizations.” The lecture explored deep civilizational and artistic aspects and the links of civilizational heritage through artifacts from the Tariq Rajab Museum, serving as an inspiring opening to a comprehensive program spanning the season.
This year’s season carries the theme “Two Doors on Mondays,” inspired by authentic Kuwaiti chants. On Monday evenings, events will alternate between intellectual lectures and musical evenings.
The season’s program features a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and musicians from Kuwait, alongside a select group of international lecturers and experts specializing in Islamic archaeology and art from the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Pinaki Museum in Athens, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in the United Kingdom. It includes local and regional musical performances from Kuwait and the Arab world, as well as evenings dedicated to folk and world musical heritage, theatrical performances, workshops, and family days.
Through this event, the Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah continues its mission to deliver a comprehensive cultural experience that blends knowledge with artistic enjoyment, and to consolidate its status as one of the most prominent cultural institutions in the region. (End) M.D.M./M.M.J.
