Egyptian Foreign Minister Discusses Latest Yemen Situation with UN Envoy

Cairo, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks today with UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and their implications for regional security. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the meeting covered all recent updates and developments in Yemen, as well as the outcomes of the UN envoy’s diplomatic moves and contacts aimed at containing the crisis and de-escalating tensions in the region. Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position supporting the unity of the Yemeni state and the preservation of its legitimate national institutions, and stressed the necessity of reaching a peaceful resolution to the crisis to enhance Yemen’s stability. He emphasized the importance of Yemen’s stability for the security of the Red Sea region and the broader region, expressing Egypt’s support for efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people and safeguards the country’s resources. He also underscored the need to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, given their direct link to the global economy, international trade flows, and food and energy supply chains.
