Jeddah, September 28 (KUNA) – The Executive Committee of the Gulf Football Union approved on Monday granting Iraq the right to host the 28th edition of the Gulf Cup (Gulf 28), in accordance with the systems, regulations, and standards approved by the Union. This decision came during a meeting of the Union’s Executive Committee held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the “Gulf 27” tournament, chaired by Union President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and attended by Executive Committee members.

In a statement, the Union said the meeting discussed the Iraqi Football Association’s request to host the 28th edition, noting that it was the only hosting request submitted by member associations, leading the Executive Committee to approve it and award Iraq the right to organize the tournament. It added that, under the approval, the Iraqi Football Association is committed to informing the Gulf Football Union of the city that will host the tournament within the specified period, and to completing the relevant organizational requirements and procedures in line with the approved regulations and systems for hosting Union tournaments.

The Union clarified that the approval comes within the framework of the Gulf Football Union’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with its member national associations, continuing to develop the Gulf tournament system, and supporting their hosting and organization in a manner that strengthens their status.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Gulf Football Union President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani reaffirmed his continuous and unwavering support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, pledging to maintain this support in the coming period. (End) K.N.S./A.B.G.
